Founded in 1985, Nauta Design started out as a shipyard whose build quality, design concepts and unmistakable style were well received by a clientele of passionate sailors. Their first boats were the Nauta 54’, the 70’ and the 65’, all timelessly elegant and innovative semi-custom series.
In the twenty years since its foundation, Nauta Design has become one of the world’s best-known sailing boat designers collaborating with naval architects Bruce Farr, Reichel/Pugh and Doug Peterson, and more recently with Judel/Vrolijk and Roberto Biscontini. Nauta chooses the naval architect whose work best corresponds to their client’s needs then blends their signature style and functionality with cutting edge technology and performance acquired directly from experience in top regattas. It’s thanks to these collaborations that over the years Nauta-designed yachts have been highly successful on the regatta circuit. All Nauta projects are carefully designed to combine seaworthiness, functionality and performance with elegance and comfort.
Sailing yachts are just part of the Nauta Design picture: their motorboat projects range from a 40’ custom sport fishing boat all the way up to Superyachts. “We started with the request for an 80m motor yacht that would privilege outdoor spaces over interior volumes and that would feature large glazed surfaces to flood the indoor areas with natural light and optimise indoor/outdoor flow. Project Light was created to combine visual brightness with perceived lightness. Light grew into the commission for the exterior design of the 180m Superyacht Azzam, as of today the largest privately owned yacht on the water. The common denominator to these diverse projects is our design philosophy based on clean lines and smooth and uninterrupted indoor/outdoor flow. We apply this philosophy to all of our projects be they lobster boats, explorer yachts or the largest megayachts,” says Mario Pedol of Nauta Design.
